The LiUNA Local 183 Training Campus is a cornerstone of skilled trades education in Ontario. Representing more than 70,000 workers across the Greater Toronto Area and training over 15,000 students annually, the campus plays a vital role in preparing the workforce supporting the province’s expanding construction and housing sectors.

The campus expansion introduces a new academic building, a large-scale workshop, and a heavy equipment storage facility, strategically integrated among existing training structures and the historic Robert Agar House (c.1855). The master plan preserves the heritage building’s prominence along Huntington Road while positioning the campus for long-term growth.

The new academic building forms the intellectual and social heart of the site, accommodating classrooms, offices, lighter workshops, and a 120-seat auditorium within a U-shaped plan that connects old and new. Expressed in concrete and precast panels with patterned brick veneer, the architecture references both the historic context and LiUNA’s masonry training programs. A new steel-framed workshop, defined by a sawtooth roof and north-facing daylight, provides flexible high-bay training space equipped with a five-ton overhead crane.

Together, the campus renewal reinforces LiUNA 183’s mission—combining heritage stewardship, contemporary architecture, and purpose-built training environments to create a forward-looking centre for skilled trades education.
